Homemade sweet potato fries are quite simple to make, and I think they taste even better than what you’d get at a restaurant.

  • Variation of French Fries

Sweet potato fries feature a variation of French fries using sweet potato instead of potato. Fried sweet potatoes are known as patates in Guinean cuisine, where they are more popular than potatoes and more commonly used to make fries.

Recipes for fried sweet potatoes in the United States go back to the nineteenth century. Some suggest parboiling the sweet potatoes before frying, while others call for frying them with sugar.

  • Five Keys That Everyone Wants To Know:

  1. Does sweet potatoes reduce belly fat?

Sweet potatoes are rich in fiber, which can help you lose weight and belly fat. The high fiber content of sweet potatoes makes you feel 'full' after your meal, helping you stick to a calorie-restricted diet.

Moreover, sweet potatoes are low in calories, which means they can fit into your weight loss diet.

  1. How to cut sweet potatoes?

Cut all fries the same size: If you cut the pieces too big, they'll be overdone on the outside and underdone on the inside. If you're going for the classic "fry" shape, 1/4-inch-thick matchstick slices work. A medium sweet potato cut lengthwise into eight wedges works well too.

  1. Should sweet potatoes be soaked before frying?

Soak sweet potato wedges in cold water for 30 to 60 minutes (or as long as 8 hours) before air frying. This is critical for removing excess starch and helping the fries to become crispy. ... Cook at 390 degrees F (200 C) for 15 to 20 minutes, flipping the wedges over once to evenly cook.

  1. How do I make my fried sweet potatoes crispy?

The secret to crispy (instead of soggy) sweet potato fries is to spread them out in an even layer with enough room so that they don't touch. This is especially important if you're making a big batch of fries.

  1. What is the secret of the tastiest fried sweet potatoes?

To make these fries, first wash and peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into sticks. Rinse them twice in cold water. Boil the fries to get them a little tender and then dip them in a batter made of cornstarch, water, salt and pepper. Now they are ready to be fried until golden. Once they are done frying, dry them on paper towels and sprinkle on a little salt and pepper. Serve them hot and crispy!

A delightful surprise for kids who love fries!

SPECIAL RECIPE: BAKED SWEET POTATO FRIES.

INGREDIENTS:

  nonstick cooking spray

1 large sweet potato, peeled

¼ cup egg substitute

1 teaspoon nutmeg

PREPARATION:

1. Place an oven rack in the middle of the oven. Preheat the oven to 425°F (218 °C) .

2. Spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.

3. Slice the sweet potato into ½-inch thick fries and place in a medium bowl.

4. Pour egg substitute over the sweet potato fries and sprinkle nutmeg on top; toss until well coated.

5. Place the sweet potato fries on the baking sheet so that they do not touch.

6. Bake until the edges of the potatoes start to turn crispy and brown, about 25 minutes.

7. Remove fries from the oven and serve while hot.

NUTRITION:

In comparison to french fries made using potatoes, both contain similar levels of macro-nutrients, calories, carbohydrates, fiber, and fat (before cooking). Sweet potato fries are higher in fiber, calcium, and vitamin A, while potato fries contain more iron, potassium, and vitamin C. When deep fried both will contain very similar levels of fat, but if the sweet potato "fries" have actually been baked they will have much less fat.
